Spotting and Cramping During Pregnancy – A Couple Serious Possibilities
For an expectant mother, learning more about the changes that will take place regarding her body while she is moving through the stages of pregnancy can lend to a calmer more relaxed time.
Anxiety is often felt by women when they learn they are going to have a baby. They often become worried and feel tension regarding the upcoming birth. There are ways to reduce these anxious moments. A supportive partner or family and friends can help. Regular visits to the OBGYN, finding time to relax and unwind and exercising should also help to reduce anxiety.
Still there will be concerns that arise. In this article we’ll touch on the subject of spotting and cramping during pregnancy.
Cramping by itself is common and will range in severity from woman to woman. As with many symptoms, cramping can be just a normal part of the condition, a sign that the uterus is stretching with the growth of a child, or in some instances it is indicative of a problem that needs to be treated.
Spotting can also occur in an expectant mother and have no serious consequences. However, there is a particular situation of which bleeding and cramping while pregnant can be a symptom. That condition is ectopic pregnancy. In this situation the egg plants somewhere outside the uterus; usually in the fallopian tubes. Another name for this condition is tubal pregnancy.
The uterus is the only organ designed to support the egg and eventual development. As a fetus grows it will usually burst any other organ in which it might be implanted and thus cause heavy bleeding and endanger the mother’s life. These signs and symptoms can also be an indication of miscarriage.
So, you can see that this occurrence has the potential to be very serious and dangerous to both mother and child. Thus it is important to consult a doctor when cramping is accompanied by spotting.
