Pregnancy Stages are Divided Into Trimesters

Ask three mothers what is the best period of pregnancy and you might get three different answers.

Traditionally, we have thought of nine months as the length of a child bearing stage. However, the stages of pregnancy are actually broken down into periods of weeks. The difference is minimal but still the first trimester extends from the first day of a woman’s last menstrual period through the 12th week, about three months.

Notable changes during this first of the child bearing stages include the progression from egg to the embryo, which by the ninth week will become the fetus. This is a very exciting time for parents as they gauge the growth of their child and make plans for the future.

With the nickname of the Golden Age, you would expect the second trimester to be a particularly enjoyable time. By the time a woman reaches this point, she has made it through the morning sickness and the overwhelming tiredness of the earlier phase. This alone is enough for rejoicing. Women generally have more energy at this point and the risk of miscarriage is significantly less once the pregnancy has advanced this far.

The early movements of the baby also begin at this juncture, and that too is a marvelous occurrence. This is a reminder of what the future holds in store, a real living little person.

The third trimester, which spans from 28 weeks to birth has one major advantage over the other two stages; this is when the baby will make his or her appearance. This event is virtually impossible to compete with.
Although the due date of a baby is in the 40th week, the child may be using a different calendar. A full-term pregnancy can go up to 42 weeks.

Who is to say which is the most enjoyable of the pregnancy stages? They are all the means to a miraculous ending.
